Eyemouth Harbour Trusts seeks new Trustees to help shape harbour’s future

Eyemouth Harbour Trust (EHT) is seeking two new Trustees to join its Board, bringing additional experience and expertise as the harbour looks ahead to a period of major opportunity and investment.

The recruitment follows last year’s publication of EHT’s £250 million, 50-year Masterplan, which has set out the potential for significant new infrastructure and commercial development in Eyemouth over the coming decades.

Against that backdrop, the Trust is looking for candidates who can bring senior-level experience, strategic judgement and expertise in areas directly relevant to the opportunities and decisions that the Harbour will face.

EHT is particularly interested in hearing from candidates with backgrounds in finance and investment, accountancy, marine civil engineering, major infrastructure, asset and capital management, commercial development, governance and public policy.

The Trust is also keen to attract candidates who are well connected across the investment, commercial, infrastructure and public sectors and who understand how major projects are developed, financed and delivered within complex stakeholder and regulatory environments.

Candidates do not need to come from the ports sector. EHT wants to broaden the range of experience of the existing Board and is interested in people who can challenge constructively, assess opportunities and risk, and bring an informed external perspective to the Trust’s decision-making.

Euan Scott, Chair of Eyemouth Harbour Trust, said: “There are two positions becoming available on our Board at a particularly important time for Eyemouth Harbour. We have set out an ambitious long-term vision for its future, and we now want to make sure we have the right breadth of experience around the table as we consider the opportunities ahead.

“The Masterplan demonstrated the scale of what could be possible for Eyemouth, but proposals of that nature also bring major commercial, financial, engineering and governance considerations. The role of Trustees is not simply to support that ambition, but to scrutinise it, challenge it and help ensure the right decisions are made for the long-term future of the harbour.

“We are not restricting that search to people who already know the ports industry. There will be people across business, finance, engineering and public life who may never have considered becoming a Trustee, but whose experience could be extremely valuable to Eyemouth. We would encourage them to speak to us.”

Eyemouth Harbour is a Trust Port and has no shareholders. It is governed by volunteer Trustees responsible for setting the Trust’s strategic direction, scrutinising major decisions and investment proposals and ensuring high standards of governance.
